About
Born on April 24th, 1973, Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, AO (/ˌsʌtʃɪn tɛnˈduːlkər/), is a former Indian cricketer and captain of the national team. Considered to be one of the greatest batsmen in cricket history, Tendulkar holds the record for the highest run scorer in both ODI and Test cricket, with over 18,000 and 15,000 runs, respectively. He has also received the most man-of-the-match awards in international cricket. From 2012 to 2018, Tendulkar served as a Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, having been nominated. Tendulkar started playing cricket at age eleven and made his Test debut against Pakistan in Karachi at the age of sixteen. He represented Mumbai domestically and India internationally for over 24 years. In 2002, Wisden ranked him as the second-greatest Test batsman of all time, after Don Bradman, and the second-greatest ODI batsman of all time, after Viv Richards. Tendulkar was part of the team that was one of the joint-winners of the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy. He also played a crucial role in India's victory in the 2011 Cricket World Cup, which was his first win in six World Cup appearances for India. In the 2003 World Cup, Tendulkar was named "Player of the Tournament".
