14,389 fans attend Ronaldo-less Al Nassr’s match in India vs FC Goa

Al Nassr edged past the Gaurs with a narrow one-goal margin.

The much-anticipated AFC Champions League Two clash between the Asian heavyweight Al Nassr Club and FC Goa delivered on its excitement as both teams played out a nearly even 2-1 match, with the Saudi side ultimately emerging victorious at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda.

However, despite the hype surrounding the awaited clash, the match failed to pull out its colossal attendance expectations.

Despite the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo, the Saudi side had notable names, including the likes of Sadio Mane, Joao Felix, Kingsley Coman and Inigo Martinez. The match only attracted a total crowd of 14,389 fans.

Though respectable players earned their caps in the match, the absence of Ronaldo and the inflated ticket prices potentially led to this underwhelming turnaround.

Goa stand resilient against all odds

Al Nassr demonstrated their attacking prowess from the very first minute, and this paid dividends when they broke the deadlock in the 10th minute off Angelo Gabriel, who took a fiery shot from outside the box to provide the visitors with an early lead.

In the latter part of the first half, Al Nassr doubled their advantage off Haroune Camara, who found the back of the net after creating an agitated situation inside the final third to make it two-nil for the Saudi side.

However, just ahead of the break, Fatorda erupted as Brison Fernandes scored the opener for FC Goa after skilfully receiving the ball from Drazic, making an accelerated run into the final third to take a shot at goal to breach the Al Nassr goal, marking a historic goal that would be etched in the hearts of every Goan fan.

Later, Al Nassr’s constant pressure in the second half was foiled by the Goan defence, which remained resolute and impenetrable and did not allow Al Nassr to widen their advantage, and at full time, Al Nassr clinched the 2-1 victory.

Glance at the Points Table

Though a 2-1 loss for FC Goa, the fans and the players would consider it as a respectable scoreline, given the depth in the Al Nassr squad. However, the respectable scoreline will not help Goa’s standing in the AFC Champions League Two table.
